MPs get smaller second allocation of government good relief

Parliamentarians have received their second government rice allocation, but the quantities have been slashed compared to previous distributions, Hwange Central legislator Fortune Daniel Molokele has confirmed.

Each lawmaker will now receive three tonnes of rice, down from the earlier allocation, with efforts already underway to transport the consignment from Harare to constituencies across the country.

“I would like to confirm that all parliamentarians in Zimbabwe have been allocated their second disbursement of rice by the government,” Molokele said.

“Unfortunately, this time around, each parliamentarian will receive a reduced allocation of three tonnes.”

The legislator added that his office is now coordinating logistics to move Hwange’s share from the capital to the western town for distribution to residents.

Molokele revealed that his constituency is still chasing an outstanding allocation from the initial rice disbursement programme conducted nearly two years ago.

“Meanwhile, we have also stepped up efforts to also be allocated our original batch of four tonnes from the initial disbursement that was done almost two years ago,” he said.

“If all goes well, we will also get the original allocation of 4 tonnes.”

That would bring Hwange’s total potential rice receipts to seven tonnes, if the outstanding four tonnes are finally delivered alongside the new three-tonne consignment.

Molokele described the process as “a developing story” and pledged to keep residents updated as the situation unfolds.

The reduced allocation comes amid growing public scrutiny over government relief programmes, with citizens questioning transparency and equity in the distribution of food aid.

While the rice is intended to cushion communities facing economic hardship, delays and logistical hurdles have often plagued the rollout, leaving some constituencies waiting months for their share.
