Nust students benefit in Indian Embassy Yoga wellness programme

More than 300 National University of Science and Technology (Nust) students rolled out their mats in Bulawayo recently for a high-energy yoga and wellness session hosted by the Indian Embassy in Harare.

The interactive session, organised with the Zimbabwe Medical Students Association (Zimsa) and The Art of Living Foundation, introduced students to basic postures and breathing techniques designed to tame stress, sharpen focus, and improve overall health.

The event is part of the Embassy’s nationwide wellness campaign ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, which will culminate in a flagship celebration at Victoria Falls.

“We are thrilled by the enthusiasm shown by Nust students,” said Rajesh Kumar, the Embassy’s counsellor for culture and public diplomacy.

“Yoga builds physical fitness, mental clarity, and emotional balance. We want to give young people practical tools for healthier, more productive lives.”

Nust vice chancellor Mqhele Dlodlo praised the initiative, noting that universities must support students beyond textbooks.

“Modern academic life is demanding. Programmes like this help students maintain balance between studies and personal well-being.”

The Bulawayo session follows similar yoga engagements in Chitungwiza, Marondera, and Mutare.

The embassy will host another International Day of Yoga event at India House in Harare on June 14, ahead of the main global celebration at Victoria Falls on June 21.

Over the past 12 years, the International Day of Yoga has grown into a worldwide movement promoting health and harmony, with millions participating annually.

Organisers say more wellness programmes are planned across Zimbabwe to encourage stress-free, active lifestyles.
