THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) has arrested Bikita Rural District Council (RDC) executive officer for finance, Never Mavhuna, on a charge of criminal abuse of office.
According to Zacc, Mavhuna allegedly registered and operated a private company, Bikitahanyanya Investments (Private) Limited, without obtaining the ministerial approval.
Investigators allege that Mavhuna conspired with the late Bikita RDC chief executive officer, Peter Chibi, to register the company in their names, with each holding a 50% shareholding.
The pair allegedly awarded contracts to their company for veranda fee collection, vehicle clamping services, bus levy administration and security services, without formal written agreements.
They are also accused of paying themselves additional “conditions of service” benefits while continuing to draw salaries from the local authority.
Zacc said the alleged misconduct resulted in financial prejudice to Bikita RDC amounting to US$2 800 and ZiG6,47 million.
Mavhuna appeared before the Bikita Magistrates’ Court and was remanded out of custody on US$150 bail.
He will return to court on June 9.
