Teen convicted for stealing, stripping Honda Fit

A 19-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man who teamed up with two female accomplices and stole a Honda Fit from a mechanic and stripped it of parts has been convicted.

Brendon Moyo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla, where he pleaded guilty to stealing the vehicle which had been left in the custody of Thabiso Hadebe. He was remanded in custody to June 2, 2026, for sentencing.

In his plea for leniency, Moyo cited economic hardship and the difficulties he faced while growing up as the reasons behind committing the offence.

“I faced many challenges growing up, which led me to resort to stealing,” he said.

“This is my first offence and I ask the court to be lenient with me.”

The court heard that in March, Hadebe received a Honda Fit for engine repair and kept the vehicle at his workshop.

On May 15, 2026, Moyo stole the car and towed it to a house in Pumula South, where he and his female accomplices reportedly stripped it of parts, including the axle, gearbox, rear lights, front bumper and bonnet.

Hadebe reported the matter to the police.

Investigations by detectives from the Vehicle Theft Squad led to Moyo’s arrest and the recovery of the vehicle shell at a house in Nkulumane.
