Chapungu FC will host Kwekwe United at Ascot Stadium on Sunday in a blockbuster Week 7 fixture, as the race for promotion in the Central Region Soccer League slowly reaches its boiling point.
After finishing bridesmaids in the past three seasons, Chapungu, who currently lead the pack in the region with 16 points from six matches, will look to go one better this campaign.
Kwekwe United, on the other hand, have been cruising nicely, with 13 points on their tally. Kwekwe United struggled last season in the PSL, finishing bottom, but head coach Tendai Chikuni has already boosted his squad hoping to carve a new niche for the Kwekwe-based outfit.
Meanwhile, they are also the club with the best record in the Central Region, boosted by their free-scoring striker Edward Watson, who has eight goals in six matches.
On Saturday, Matobo FC will battle Super Strikers FC at Maphisa Grounds. In Shurugwi, Shurugwi FC will host Shabanie Mine FC at Makusha Stadium.
In addition, Grain Tigers FC take on Vhembe Stars Academy FC at Mbizo Stadium, while Dulibadzimu United FC battle it out with West Nicholson FC at Dulibadzimu Stadium. Good Morning FC take on Sabi Gold Mine FC at Kotamai grounds, in a clash of the league’s newcomers.
On Sunday, at Phelandaba Stadium, it will be a Gwanda derby, as ZRP Gwanda FC takes on Gwanda Pirates FC, a match where the disciplined police side looks to stifle the Pirates’ attacking swagger.
At Ascot Stadium, Chapungu FC locks horns with Kwekwe United FC. Matchday seven will conclude on Wednesday at Mandava Stadium, where FC Platinum U19 host MSU FC.
