MP donates 20 cattle for independence celebrations

Mpasi said the donation was made in his dual capacity as a miner operating in Matabeleland South and Midlands provinces as well as a Member of Parliament.

SHURUGWI North legislator Joseph Mpasi (Zanu PF) has donated 20 heads of cattle towards this year’s Independence Day celebrations, in a gesture aimed at supporting national unity and commemorating Zimbabwe’s liberation milestones.

The 20 beasts were allocated to the national celebrations set for Maphisa in Matabeleland South province, with the MP donating US$2 000 to the Midlands provincial festivities in Zvishavane.

Mpasi said the donation was made in his dual capacity as a miner operating in Matabeleland South and Midlands provinces as well as a Member of Parliament.

“Independence Day is a symbol of our hard-won freedom and collective resilience as Zimbabweans,” Mpasi said.

“As both a businessperson and a representative of the people, I saw it fit to contribute towards these celebrations, which unite us as a nation.”

He added that the gesture aligned with the country’s development aspirations and the broader vision of economic empowerment.

“This contribution is in sync with the aspirations of our independence and the national Vision 2030 agenda, which seeks to build an upper-middle-income society driven by inclusive growth and shared prosperity,” Mpasi said.

“Supporting such events is part of fostering unity and national pride as we work towards that goal.”

The country’s Independence Day commemorations have been decentralised in recent years, with different provinces hosting the main event as part of efforts to promote inclusive national development.
