New market set to transform trading in Insiza North

Residents of Insiza North are set to benefit from a major infrastructure initiative: the construction of a vendors’ market at Shangani business centre.

The twin-structure market is modelled after Mbare Musika, one of Zimbabwe’s largest and busiest trading hubs and is expected to bring order, improved sanitation, and greater efficiency for vendors.

The market represents a transformative step for Insiza North, providing vendors with a safe, organised trading space, reliable water supply and proper sanitation facilities.

By addressing long-standing challenges in informal trading, the initiative aims to boost local businesses, improve hygiene and enhance overall quality of life in the constituency.

Insiza North Member of Parliament Delani Moyo said the market aimed to replicate the New Mbare Musika model.

“This project is about restoring dignity to our vendors and creating a safe and organised trading environment. We are committed to ensuring communities in Insiza North benefit from meaningful infrastructure that improves their daily lives,” he said.

Moyo donated 10 000 bricks towards construction and facilitated access to water through a solar-powered borehole, ensuring reliable supply and improved hygiene at the site.

Informal traders welcomed the initiative, calling

it transformative.

“We have been operating in difficult conditions for years. This market will change everything for us. We will finally have proper shelter and space to conduct business,” Thobekile Mafu said.

Another vendor, Ntombiyekhaya Moyo, added: “This is a major development for our community. It shows that our concerns are being heard. With proper facilities, we can grow our businesses and support our families better.”

Vendors are operating in makeshift structures with no proper ablution facilities. Donald Ndlovu said the new market would reduce congestion and avail ample space for trader to

operate comfortably.

“It will also attract more customers because the environment will be clean and organised,” she said.
