Zimbabwe’s trade development and promotion body, ZimTrade, is intensifying efforts to boost local industries under the Creative DNA Zimbabwe programme.
ZimTrade emphasised the transformative role of such programmes in revitalising the textile value chain.
“Capacity-building remains a cornerstone of our strategy to empower local industries. By equipping clothing and textile players with export-ready skills, we are directly addressing gaps that have historically limited Zimbabwe’s participation in regional and global value chains,” the agency said.
ZimTrade added that the Creative DNA Zimbabwe programme provides a unique platform for fusion.
“Combining global expertise with local talent is not just a concept it is a practical route to competitiveness.
This partnership with the British Council and the Embassy of Switzerland ensures that Zimbabwean designers and manufacturers can meet international buyer requirements while retaining authentic creative identity,” the organisation added.
The textile sector, once a pillar of Zimbabwe’s industrial base, has faced decades of decline due to cheap imports and obsolete equipment.
However, officials see renewed potential in niche markets and ethical fashion.

“We are witnessing a resurgence of interest in locally produced fabrics and garments. Our role is to ensure that interest translates into sustainable exports,” ZimTrade stated.
With the British Council and Swiss embassy’s backing, ZimTrade plans to roll out similar interventions for other creative subsectors.
“This is a long-term journey. Empowering industries today builds the export champions of tomorrow,” ZimTrade said.
The Creative DNA Zimbabwe program is part of a skills development initiative supporting the country’s creative economy.
ZimTrade has previously conducted similar export awareness training for sectors including leather, horticulture, and homeware, with a consistent focus on building local capacity to access regional and international.
