CCA urges discipline among youths

THE Council of Churches for Africa (CCA) has called on Zimbabwean youths to be responsible with their lives and desist from defiling their bodies by engaging in sexual immoralities and other social vices.

CCA founder and President Rocky Moyo told Southern Eye during a youth conference held in Luveve over the weekend that the youth are the foundation of future churches.

The conference was held under the theme: Culture of purity.

“We want to instil discipline so that they can retain their identity,” Moyo said. “We must have a culture of discipline just like what it used to be in the past. We want to mould them to become good leaders for tomorrow.”

He said churches were being blamed for sins committed by the youth in church as if there is no discipline among congregates.

“They engage in sexually immoral activities at a tender age resulting in early child marriages and pregnancies leading to marriages that do not last.

“They are also involved in drugs and substances tarnishing the image of churches. As church leaders we have decided to stand our ground and put an end to this unruly behaviour,” Moyo said.

He said they came up with various activities to capture the attention of the youth in churches.

“We are trying to panel beat them at a tender age realising that these youth no longer respect the body as a temple of God,” Moyo said. “There are a lot of reported cases of child pregnancies in church.”

He said they introduced awards for various categories to lure youth, which include the best musical group in all churches, the best disciplined child, the best preacher and the best football team, among others.

Moyo revealed that they created an office for the youth manned by a national secretary who coordinates youth activities across the country.

He said this was done deliberately with the appointment of an adult youth secretary to work with the youth whom he described as a disciplinarian.

“We will be working with government to mould future leaders. They must also know that they have been called for work by God to spread the gospel and create a strong foundation for the church,” he said.

Moyo said they invited youth leaders from all churches so that they would be ambassadors in their churches and train others.
