Two men accused of terrorising villagers in Gokwe have been arrested and are facing 20 counts of robbery following a pursuit by community members.

In a police report, Provincial Community Relations Officer Inspector R Muteveri identified the suspects as Andrew Aunde of Masuka Village, Chief Masuka, and Tinashe Muzenda of Mashove Village, Chief Njelele.

The breakthrough came on March 3 at around 3:30 am when Aunde and his accomplices robbed a victim of US$2 180, airtime cards, and clothing.

When the complainant screamed for help, nearby residents chased the fleeing suspects and effected a citizen's arrest on Aunde.

Further investigations led to Muzenda’s arrest.

Inspector Muteveri stated that the duo, together with accomplices Tanaka Sydney Ngulube and Magaisa Tafadzwa who are still at large, have been terrorising Sasame area residents.

On February 23, armed with machetes, the gang robbed a victim of cash, cellphones, and clothes.

That same evening, they pounced on five other complainants.

The suspects appeared at Gokwe Magistrates Court on March 5 and were remanded in custody.

Police have appealed for information leading to the arrest of the outstanding suspects while commending the public's efforts in fighting crime.
