Premier Soccer League (PSL) chief executive officer, Rodwell Thabe, has encouraged players and coaches to enrol in educational courses as part of preparing for life after football.
Thabe was the guest of honour at Chicken Inn’s unveiling ceremony of their principal sponsor, Lucky Bets, as well as other partners including Edgars, ProBottlers and InnBucks.
While congratulating the Gamecocks for securing lucrative sponsorship deals, Thabe used the platform to urge players and members of the technical team to invest in their education.
“My encouragement to the players and members of the technical team is that we play football now, but let’s start enrolling for educational courses in coaching and administration,” Thabe said.
His remarks came after he referenced former Chicken Inn star Clemence Matawu, who is now one of the club’s top administrators.
Matawu played a key role in helping Chicken Inn clinch their only league championship in 2015.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Sport Science and Coaching, having graduated from the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) in 2019.
In addition, the ex-Motor Action star, who featured six times in the Soccer Stars of the Year calendar during his 19-year career, has continued to pursue further knowledge.
