Zimbabwe is set to host a series of back-to-back United Nations (UN) tourism high-level meetings in Victoria Falls, with the government stating that this is a vote of confidence in the country’s tourism sector.
This was confirmed during a post-cabinet briefing on Tuesday.
According to the government, the meetings will be held at Elephant Hills between April 27 and May 1.
The UN Committee on Tourism and Sustainability (CTS) will hold a seminar running from April 27 to 28.
This will be followed by a UN Committee on Tourism and Sustainability-linked Pilot Capacity-Building Workshop, to be hosted from April 28 to 29 in preparation for the International Year of Resilient and Sustainable Tourism 2027.
From April 29 to May 1, there will be a UN Tourism Regional Congress on Women’s Empowerment in Tourism in Africa.
“Hosting these meetings represents a strategic milestone for Zimbabwe in its journey towards hosting the International Year of Resilient and Sustainable Tourism in 2027, an honour that underscores the country’s political and diplomatic profile within the global tourism governance space,” cabinet said.
“These mega events will position the country as a top leader in meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (Mice Tourism), while the participation of global tourism leaders, policymakers, development partners, sustainability experts and academia will reinforce Zimbabwe’s commitment to sustainable and resilient tourism development practices through alignment with the United Nations Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.”
