Tsholotsho South Member of the House of Assembly, Musa Ncube, has moved to cushion the San community from food shortages by donating mealie meal to vulnerable households in the constituency.
Ncube said the intervention was a short-term relief measure meant to address immediate food needs while long-term solutions were being implemented to ensure food self-sufficiency among the community.
“We are guided by His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s vision that no one and no place must be left behind,” she said.
“This assistance is meant to alleviate hunger, but our focus is to ensure that the San community is empowered to produce its own food and sustain itself “
Ncube said work was already underway to support agricultural production at Chief Goledema’s fields, where communal farming initiatives were being prioritised to improve food security.
“We do not want our people to depend on food handouts forever,” she added.
“We are already working to make sure that land is productively utilised so that enough food is grown here in Tsholotsho South, even under difficult climatic conditions.”
Chief Goledema of the San community described the intervention as timely and life-saving.

“This gesture shows that government is aware of our challenges,” he said.
“The San community is still developing the capacity to practise sustainable agriculture, and this support helps us survive as we work towards self-reliance.”
Chief Goledema said continued technical and material support would be key in enabling the community to fully participate in national food production programmes.
Beneficiaries of the donation expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying it had brought relief to households that were facing food insecurity.
“This help has come at the right time. Many families were struggling, and this has eased the burden,” Mqondisi Mabhena said.
Another beneficiary, Sethule Twabo, said the donation demonstrated inclusive leadership.
“We feel recognised and valued,” Twabo said.
“This shows that Government cares about every citizen, including minority communities.”
