Two writers from Bulawayo have joined forces to explore the complexities of human experience, drawing inspiration from the many questions people face in life without clear answers, through their new poetry anthology, Perplexitas Reverie, and its follow-up, Perplexitas Reverie Twain— titles inspired by the Latin for “random thoughts.”
Dumisani Matewe and Amanda Sibanda have crafted 42 poems—25 in the first manuscript and 17 in the second—creating a collection that offers a platform for reflection, dialogue, and insight.
The duo invites readers to confront their own experiences, hopes, and uncertainties, turning personal and collective challenges into a shared literary journey.
“In a complex world where reality and imagination often overlap, poetry helps us better understand the human experience” Matewe said.
“These poems encourage readers to look inward and reflect on their own fears, desires, and hopes.
“Written with honesty and beauty, each poem offers a new way to see ourselves.”
In one of the poems, titled Title Me, the poets explore the inner turmoil of a person grappling with their own darkness, guilt, and moral complexity.
Ultimately, the poem examines how the mind’s reflections—its longings, fears, and relentless questioning—create a reality that is at once confining and revealing, highlighting the tension between hope and despair.
Matewe has won seven awards under the Poets and Writers’ Den group, with over 2 000 poems to his name, while these works mark Sibanda’s first published books.
