CONSTRUCTION of access roads within Maphisa Town Board in Matabeleland South province is in progress following the area’s recent elevation from a rural business centre to town board status.
The road works are focused on improving internal access routes within the business centre, linking shops, markets, government offices and residential areas.
The project is expected to enhance mobility and improve the movement of goods and services.
Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Albert Nguluvhe said road infrastructure played a critical role in unlocking economic opportunities in the province.
“Upgrades such as the Gwanda-Maphisa Road will greatly enhance connectivity and economic activity in the region, improving access to services and opening up opportunities in mining and agriculture,” he said.
Maphisa, located in Matobo district, was elevated to town board status in recognition of growing economic activity and expanding population.
The area is experiencing increased activity in mining and agriculture, as well as investment from those in the diaspora.
As a town board, Maphisa now has greater administrative authority in planning, infrastructure development and service delivery.
