The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) has handed over relief assistance to a family in Nsongwa, Hwange district, Matabeleland North province, who lost their home and property after it was struck by lightning, leaving everything reduced to ashes.
The humanitarian organisation also extended assistance to families affected by floods in Binga district, as part of its ongoing disaster response efforts.
The assistance, which comprised non-food items, brought relief and renewed hope to affected families, with Red Cross volunteers mobilising swiftly to support victims in the aftermath of the disasters.
ZRCS secretary-general Elias Hwenga said the humanitarian organisation remains committed to supporting vulnerable communities during emergencies, particularly as climate-related disasters such as floods and lightning strikes become more frequent.
Hwenga urged communities to take early warning messages seriously and called for increased collaboration among stakeholders to strengthen disaster resilience in vulnerable areas.
