Shurugwi Member of Parliament, Honourable Joseph Mpasi, has pledged to accelerate development across the constituency, placing strong emphasis on education, health, food security and infrastructure in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s development philosophy of “leaving no one and no place behind.”
Speaking on his development agenda as he continues from where he left off in 2025, Hon Mpasi said his focus remains on tangible, people-driven projects that improve the everyday lives of Shurugwi residents.
“Development is not an event, it is a process. We are continuing from where we left in 2025, building step by step, community by community, in sync with His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of inclusive development,” said Mpasi.
A key highlight of the MP’s 2026 roadmap is the completion and official opening of Dombwe Clinic, a long-awaited health facility expected to significantly improve access to healthcare for surrounding communities.
“The Dombwe Clinic is nearing completion, and we are targeting its official opening in October this year. This project will reduce walking distances, improve maternal and child health, and bring dignity to our people,” Mpasi said.
Reflecting on progress recorded last year, the MP cited successful drug and substance abuse awareness campaigns and the Youth Indaba that brought together young people, community leaders and experts to confront the growing challenge of drug abuse.
“Last year, we made important strides in raising awareness on drug and substance abuse and engaging our youths through the Youth Indaba. These platforms are critical because prevention starts with dialogue and inclusion,” he noted.
Building on that momentum, Hon Mpasi revealed that Shurugwi Town will host the Youth Indaba this year, alongside expanded youth engagement programmes aimed at keeping young people productive and away from drugs.

“In 2026, youths are at the centre of our plans. We will host the Youth Indaba here in Shurugwi Town and roll out more engagement programmes. Our goal is to combat drug abuse by creating opportunities, skills and spaces where youths can thrive,” Mpasi said.
Women empowerment also features prominently on the MP’s agenda, with several programmes lined up to support women’s economic participation and self-reliance.
At the same time, efforts are underway to develop school infrastructure and improve conditions for teachers, a move aimed at retaining qualified personnel within the constituency.
Through the MP’s Education Support Foundation, disadvantaged learners will continue to receive assistance in the form of school fees, uniforms and stationery, ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints.
