A DARING thief targeting the national broadcaster, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), met swift justice when was arrested while selling broadcasting equipment worth over US$5 000.

Elton Dalubuhle Ndlovu (23) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Casmila Madzikatire, where he pleaded guilty to a theft charge and was remanded in custody.

The incident occurred in the early hours of December 28 at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre.

A ZBC crew had parked an outside broadcast (OB) van near Hall 4 after completing a live transmission, carefully packing and securing the equipment inside the vehicle.

Under the cover of darkness, Ndlovu accessed the OB van and stole a black satchel containing a range of sophisticated broadcasting tools.

Among the stolen items were an Apple MacBook, HP Core i7 laptop, Barix device, microphone connectors, an audio box, headphones, two laptop chargers, three Ethernet cables, power cables and a Wi-Fi router all valued at US$5 138.

Ndlovu was arrested while selling the stolen goods, which were subsequently recovered by police.
