Insiza North legislator Delani Moyo has fulfilled part of his pledge to Lochard Primary School by delivering 20 000 bricks to kick-start the construction of teachers’ accommodation, following concerns over staff accommodation shortage.
Moyo was the guest of honour at the school’s prize-giving day, where he sponsored prizes and rewarded 50 learners.
He donated US$2 500 to kick-start the construction project.
During the ceremony, Moyo pledged to prioritise the project as part of his commitment to improving education standards in the constituency.
On Sunday, Moyo delivered 20 000 bricks for the construction of the long-awaited teachers’ accommodation, saying the project aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which prioritises modernising education infrastructure, improving the learning environment and ensuring rural schools are adequately resourced.
Moyo applauded recent improvement in learner performance, with the school’s pass rate rising from 36% to 50% in this year’s Zimsec Grade 7 examinations.
“Despite these gains, I acknowledged challenges such as lack of teachers’ accommodation, absence of a school garden and tuckshop, shortages of learning materials, blackboards and some classes still being conducted under trees,” Moyo said.
“I assure you that these issues align with my development agenda for Insiza North and I will address them.”

Moyo announced plans to construct a teachers’ cottage and provide material for the roof for a classroom block whose foundation has already been dug.
A School Development Committee representative expressed profound appreciation for the donation.
“I am at a loss for words, filled with nothing but joy and gratitude,” he said. “Teachers' accommodation project is now visibly taking shape and I am encouraging the MP to keep up the good work for the benefit of learners and teachers.”
The representative also applauded Moyo, noting that the speed at which the promise was fulfilled reflected the MP’s commitment to uplifting education in the constituency.
“The promise was made last Wednesday and fulfilled on Sunday. We are very grateful for what the MP has done for the school. He is, indeed, a father who will always be there,” he said.
Moyo’s latest intervention builds on several ongoing efforts to strengthen Lochard Primary School.
At the prize-giving ceremony, he pledged to install WiFi, support digitalisation and continue addressing infrastructure gaps, from classrooms to staff accommodation.
Just before the schools' closing day, Moyo was invited to five schools as a guest of honour, where he and his team donated close to US$8 000 to various schools and individuals.
Among the schools he visited are Lochard, Siyazama, St Lucy and Ensangu primary schools, where he parted with more than US$7 530.
Moyo, a well-known miner in Insiza, also sponsored prizes that were awarded to excelling students and pledged to install Starlink at the five schools that invited him to be guest of honour in Insiza North.
The legislator won the by-election held in June this year.
Moyo has been running around communities drilling boreholes, solar-powering them and assisting in the construction of several school classroom blocks since assumed the seat.
