THE ZIPRA Veterans Association has declared its support for fellow Zanla war veteran Blessed Geza’s call for good governance and change of government, given the alarming levels of corruption, poverty, economic challenges and lack of development under the current administration.
The association also condemned Geza’s victimisation and dismissal from Zanu PF as a violation of the party's constitution and the principles which inspired them to fight for the liberation of the country.
In an interview with Southern Eye, the association’s deputy spokesperson Joakim Moyo also condemned the arrest and detention of Alpha Media Holdings senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga.
“Let everyone know that Zipra veterans in their consistent and non-partisan stance in pursuit of a just State firmly stand behind the plain truth that Geza articulated,” he said.
“Yes, some of us may dither but our cause remains an unfulfilled peoples’ chosen path.
Geza’s expulsion is fraught with undue processes exposing how precarious government and governance are in Zimbabwe.”
Moyo said Mhlanga’s arrest was yet another megaphone, warning everyone of an impending danger.
“Zanu PF has become a danger to itself and a toxic liability to Zimbabwe. That the war was won we need to save ourselves as a country including those in Zanu PF from pending extinction,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources in the war veterans’ circles have revealed that former freedom fighters from both Zanla and Zipra support Geza’s call for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down.
They also revealed that war veterans from both groups held a meeting in the Midlands province, where issues raised by Geza were discussed.
“We met in the Midlands where we talked about these issues and it was clear among all of us that this government is no longer serving the purpose which we sacrificed our lives for,” the sources said.
“Only a few war veterans in positions of authority are enjoying themselves while the rest of us have been living in abject poverty for the past 45 years. There is still no sign that we will ever enjoy lives.”
The ruling Zanu PF last week expelled Geza, who was a central committee member, from the party accusing him of disrespecting the party and it is leadership.
The police are looking for the veteran of the liberation struggle who faces allegations of theft, insulting Mnangagwa and inciting violence.
