THREE Beitbridge men have been sentenced to a combined 30 months in prison for poaching.

Simon Ngulube (41) Mushe Muleya (37) Welcome Ngulube (30) were on Monday convicted of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act.

The trio, however, had its sentence commuted to 245 hours of community service each.

The court was told that on May 7, 2024, detectives received information that the three had killed wild animals for meat in the Beitbridge area.

Acting on the tip-off, a crack team made up of members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and Parks and Wildlife Authority officials raided their base where carcasses of an Impala, a warthog and a scrub hare were recovered.

The three failed to produce a hunting permit or licence and were arrested.

The poached animals were valued at US$2 100.
