Econet AI launches major recruitment drive for over 100 AI engineers

HARARE, Jul. 13 (NewsDay Live) – Econet AI, a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, has launched a major recruitment drive for more than 100 engineers as it accelerates the rollout of its artificial intelligence strategy.

The recruitment is expected to be one of the largest intakes of engineers by a single private company in Zimbabwe in recent years, with successful candidates set to undergo intensive AI training before being deployed across product development, customer support and enterprise solutions.

The company said it has already received applications from engineers based in Zimbabwe as well as Zimbabwean professionals working abroad, reflecting strong interest in the programme.

According to Econet AI, the hiring exercise marks only the first phase of a broader strategy to expand AI adoption across Zimbabwe by supporting businesses and organisations with AI-powered solutions.

“Some of the engineers will be deployed within these companies to act as advisers, which is why Econet AI needs so many engineers right now,” the company said.

Econet AI chief executive Navdeep Kapur said the company is targeting graduates in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science and robotics, including candidates with honours, master’s and doctoral qualifications.

“We are already currently in the process of onboarding over 70 positions, and we will need more. Even if we don’t hire some now, we want them on file as we are growing very rapidly,” Kapur said.

He said the initial focus is on recruiting engineers to develop AI products, with additional roles expected to be created as the business expands.

The recruitment underscores the growing investment in artificial intelligence by Zimbabwean companies as demand rises for AI-driven products, automation and digital transformation services across multiple sectors.
