Mlondolozi prison inmates undergo entrepreneurship training

The conference, attended by women from other parts of Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, ran under the theme "No Woman Left Behind: Empowering Every Generation".

BULAWAYO, July 12 (NewsDay Live) - Female inmates at Mlondolozi Prison recently received entrepreneurship training at a regional economic empowerment conference organised bythe Christ the Word Church in Emganwini.

The conference, attended by women from other parts of Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, ran under the theme "No Woman Left Behind: Empowering Every Generation".

It mainly focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, mental health, mentorship and personal development.

 

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province and Devolution minister Judith Ncube, encouraged women to strengthen families through communication, mentorship and unity.

 

"As a church let us pray and support one another. Families should be strengthened through effective communication, mentorship and unity," she said.

 

Higher Grace International Ministries, Maybin Chamuka urged women to uphold their dignity through wise decisions and discipline.

 

"If we want to succeed in life, let us remain committed to our visions," Chamuka said.

 

Bulawayo deputy police chief, Assistant Commissioner Priscilla Mthembo said women in correctional facilities should be included in programmes that promote empowerment and spiritual guidance.

 

"The challenges that affect women in our communities also affect women who are in prison. Incarceration should never deny them opportunities to receive spiritual guidance, encouragement and empowerment," she said.

 

One of the inmates, Janeth Sibanda said rehabilitation programmes had equipped her with knowledge and life skills.

 

"While in prison, I have participated in various rehabilitation programmes that have empowered me with knowledge, life skills and hope for a better future," she said.
