Excellence made affordable: Wadzanai Mujuru reaps the fruits of a 15-month dream at new Harare clinic

It was a moment 15 months in the making, born out of sleepless nights, intense financial sacrifice, and a deep-seated spiritual conviction.

Amid tears, laughter, and a profound sense of triumph, Pentagon Eye Care officially opened its doors today at Shop 11, Avilla Mall, at the corner of 4th Street and Kwame Nkrumah in the heart of Harare.’

The grand opening was not just the launch of a premium medical facility equipped with state-of-the-art eye-checking machinery, it marked the realisation of a soul-filled dream for managing partner Wadzanai Mujuru.

To celebrate the milestone, the clinic immediately put its mission into practice by offering free eye scans to everyone in attendance and showcasing its extensive inventory of high-quality eyeglasses available in different shapes and sizes to suit all preferences.

Addressing a mixed crowd of clergy, medical professionals, partners, and family, an emotional Mujuru spoke straight from the heart, bypassing his written speech initially to describe the gruelling journey to this milestone.

He compared the 15-month journey of setting up the clinic to a mother enduring pregnancy and labour, noting that before anything of value is birthed, there is a process of pain that must be endured.

He shared that the company had been paying rentals and operational costs for over a year with zero income coming in.

He explained that when the drive is not just about money—even when you get some—you are supposed to have put in your all and put in your sweat so that you can truly value what then comes out.

Acknowledging the immense support of his wife through the sleepless nights, Mujuru reflected on the unwavering faith, endurance, and perseverance required to see the project through to fruition.

For Mujuru, Pentagon Eye Care is the definitive answer to a burning question that kept him up at night: "Why should clear vision be a privilege when it is a necessity?"

The core philosophy of the clinic challenges the traditional mindset of the medical industry, emphasising that the facility aims to serve the schoolchild falling behind because of undiagnosed sight issues, the exhausted entrepreneur, and the grandparent longing to see their grandchild’s face clearly.

He declared to the gathering that today may look like the opening of another business, but for them, it is the beginning of a promise.

He described this as a promise that quality eye care should never depend on where you live, what you earn, or who you know, adding that they have not lowered the standards to become affordable, but have instead challenged themselves to make excellence affordable.

He then issued a direct, powerful charge to his resident optometrist, Sharon, and the rest of the medical team, stating that their tagline, “See beyond the ordinary,” is more than a slogan.

While the flagship clinic at Avilla Mall is a dream come true, Mujuru made it clear that this grand opening was merely the prologue to a much larger national expansion strategy.

Pentagon Eye Care does not intend to restrict its top-tier services to the capital city as he revealed, while they open their doors in the CBD today, their vision reaches far beyond this neighbourhood.

Mujuru said they were not going to confine themselves to Harare, because Harare is not the only place with people needing help.

This clinic, he noted, is their first chapter and not their final destination, as the ultimate goal is to ignite a nationwide movement where no Zimbabwean is denied the gift of clear vision due to geographic isolation or financial constraints.

As the ribbons were cut and the doors officially opened, Mujuru left the audience with a stirring thought on legacy and the true definition of sight, stating that "the greatest vision is not what we see with our eyes, but what we see with our hearts."

He expressed his hope that years from now, those in attendance would look back and say they were there when a vision became a movement.
