ZRP rallies Marondera residents to combat crime

MARONDERA – THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has called on Marondera communities to become active partners in the fight against violent crime and road carnage, warning that silence is the shield of criminals.

At a high-energy awareness campaign held at the UMAA Institute, the ZRP’s national crime and traffic team brought together students, educators, residents, and local leaders to confront a stark reality: modern crime is sophisticated, and beating it requires grassroots intelligence.

“We cannot arrest our way out of this crisis,” a police representative told the gathering.

“We need you to speak. Every tip, every observation, every call to the National Complaints Desk could save a life.”

The outreach zeroed in on dismantling syndicates behind armed robberies, murder, rape, stock theft, and domestic violence. But beyond violent crime, officers issued a grave warning about road traffic accidents—a silent killer claiming far too many lives on the country’s highways.

“Reckless driving, unlicensed vehicles, and speeding have turned our roads into death traps,” the traffic unit stressed. “Communities must report dangerous drivers and suspect vehicles before tragedy strikes.”

By targeting young adults at an educational hub, police hope to build a lasting culture of vigilance, especially against illicit drug networks preying on vulnerable youth.

The Marondera engagement is part of a provincial rollout by national command to rebuild public confidence and establish localized safety strategies.

"The structural safety of this nation rests on the strength of the partnership between police and the people.”

With the National Complaints Desk open and community networks activated, ZRP urged every citizen to break the silence because crime thrives when good people do nothing.
