Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival

HARARE, Apr. 22 (NewsDay Live) – The multi-award-winning Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival returns for its 2026 edition, with organisers promising a vibrant showcase of Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage through traditional dance.

Running from May 9 to July 11, the festival is held in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA), bringing communities together through music, dance and cultural expression.

This year’s theme, “Ngoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay’sgubhu Mngane,” underscores the festival’s role in celebrating tradition while fostering unity and friendship.

The 2026 circuit kicks off in Bulawayo at the Manor Hotel on May 9, before moving to Mashonaland Central (Mt Darwin) and Masvingo (Gutu) on May 16.

On May 30, shows will be held in Matabeleland South (Gwanda) and Mashonaland East (Murehwa), followed by the Harare provincial final at Werras Park, Glen View 1, on June 6.

Simultaneous events are scheduled for June 13 in Mashonaland West (Chinhoyi) and Matabeleland North (Victoria Falls), with provincial rounds concluding on June 20 in Manicaland (Watsomba, Nyanga) and the Midlands (Kwekwe).

Organisers say audiences can expect high-energy performances from traditional dance groups showcasing diverse cultural expressions from across the country.

Participants must be registered with NACZ and ZNTDA to compete for prizes, with provincial winners receiving US$2,500, US$1,500 and US$1,000 for first, second and third place, respectively.

The competition culminates in the national final on July 11, where the top group will win US$15,000, with second and third place earning US$10,000 and US$7,500.

Festival sponsor Delta Corporation, through Delta Beverages, says the event strengthens its connection with consumers through culture, dance and heritage, while promoting local arts development via the Chibuku brand.

Organisers have invited the public to experience the festival’s rhythm, energy and cultural diversity under the slogan: “Chibuku – Huruyadzo PaHushamwari, Inkunzi Ehlanganisa Abangane.”
