HARARE, Apr. 8 (NewsDay Live) – The national trade development and promotion agency, ZimTrade, is this week hosting a delegation of buyers from China under a high-level market engagement programme ahead of the Zimbabwe–China Business Forum, which begins in Mutare today.
ZimTrade said the programme is designed to strengthen direct trade linkages between Zimbabwean exporters and Chinese buyers through on-the-ground exposure to production systems, export capacity and quality standards across key agricultural value chains.
The agency said the visit forms part of a broader export promotion strategy to position Zimbabwe as a competitive supplier of premium agricultural products to the Chinese market.
“We are hosting a delegation of buyers from China this week ahead of the Zimbabwe–China Business Forum in Mutare,” ZimTrade said.
The delegation has already begun field assessments of local agricultural operations, visiting macadamia and chilli farms around Harare, with further tours scheduled in Manicaland.
ZimTrade emphasised that the engagements are geared towards securing long-term trade outcomes rather than short-term transactions.
“We are showcasing Zimbabwe’s premium exports and laying the foundation for sustainable trade partnerships,” it said.
The visiting buyers are expected to engage directly with farmers, exporters and agribusiness stakeholders to assess Zimbabwe’s production capacity, post-harvest handling systems and export readiness, particularly in high-value horticultural crops such as macadamia nuts and chilli, which are seeing growing demand in Asian markets.
