George Manyaya appointed ZTA chief executive.

THE Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has appointed George Munyaradzi Manyaya as its new chief executive, effective February 1, 2026.

Manyaya’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as Zimbabwe seeks to boost its tourism sector, attract investment, and position itself as a competitive regional destination.

With extensive experience across multiple industries and a strong academic background, he is tasked with driving tourism growth, enforcing industry standards, and coordinating stakeholders for sustainable development.

In a statement yesterday, the ZTA board said Manyaya brings strong academic credentials, strategic leadership and extensive multi-sectoral experience.

“He has served across key tourism-enabling sectors including aviation, transport, telecommunications, energy, mining, banking, and the United Nations system, gaining deep insight into tourism development, infrastructure, investment, and stakeholder coordination,” it said.

Manyaya holds a Doctorate in Business Management, a Master of Science in International Relations degree, Master’s degree in Strategic Management and Corporate Governance.

He is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

Manyaya also holds professional qualifications in mass communication, diplomacy and regulation.

A recognised marketer, Manyaya joins ZTA from Zesa where he was general manager responsible for marketing communications and stakeholder relations.

Manyaya is the chairperson at the national road authority, Zinara.

He was appointed Tourism Brand Ambassador and served on the organising committee of the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly, successfully co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia.

His mandate, the board said, includes positioning Zimbabwe as a competitive tourist destination, driving tourism development, enforcing industry standards, generating tourism intelligence, coordinating stakeholders, and facilitating sustainable investment for national growth.
