The National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has rolled out its 2025 festive season blood donation campaign, setting an ambitious target of nearly 8 000 units to meet the country’s heightened demand during the holiday period.
Running from 1 December to mid-January, the campaign aims to cushion the seasonal pressure on national blood supplies, pressure often triggered by increased travel, road accidents, medical emergencies, and the temporary closure of schools, which reduces the availability of young, regular donors.
NBSZ Chief Executive Officer, Lucy Marowa, urged Zimbabweans from all walks of life to step forward and donate, stressing that the campaign’s theme celebrates generosity, joy, and the life-saving value of blood.
“We are counting on you, as the Republic of Zimbabwe, to come together to share the gift of life, the gift that keeps on giving," she told the media.
"Our campaign this year is hinged on joy, generosity, and life-giving action.
"That is why we are saying, jingle all the way to the blood bank."
Marowa emphasised that every donation has the power to save lives, particularly during the festive season when demand traditionally spikes.
She encouraged first-time donors, returning donors, and those who have not donated in a long time to find their nearest clinic and support the national effort.

“We want every Zimbabwean to know that by giving blood, they are giving the most precious gift of all, a gift of life,” she said.
To achieve the 7 800 unit festive target, NBSZ has intensified outreach efforts through community campaigns and more than 90 mobile collection points across the country.
Static clinics will be open daily until December 24, pausing only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
The organisation’s broader 2025 goal is to collect 97 500 units of blood.
Between January and October this year alone, NBSZ had already harvested over 73 000 units, reaching 90% of its annual target and positioning itself to surpass last year’s total of more than 77 000 units.
