Chinese national squanders employer's money at casino.

Yu Yue  pleaded guilty Tuesday when he appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Apollonia Marutya who remanded him in custody to May 2 for sentencing.

A 33-year-old Chinese national has pleaded guilty to stealing US$72 000 from his employer, which he later lost to gambling.

Yu Yue  pleaded guilty Tuesday when he appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Apollonia Marutya who remanded him in custody to May 2 for sentencing.

The complainant is Osaka Private Limited represented by Claude Bare.

Prosecutor Kudzai Madzimari told the court that on unknown dates between June last year and early April 2024, Yu was hired as a salesperson to sell vehicle tyres on behalf of Osaka Private Limited.

It emerged that after selling the tyres, he did not hand over all the money to his employers.

An internal audit revealed that US$72 000 was missing.

When he was quizzed over the shortfall,  Yue indicated that he had spent it at a casino.
