Luveve holds volleyball competition

The tournament will attract various primary schools from Bulawayo and around with secondary schools expected to compete at the same venue tomorrow.

Tournament organiser William Mazviro said: “It’s the fourth year of the Luvac annual tournament. This year’s edition is special because it is the first time we are having a corporate sponsor. The academy was started with the aim of developing volleyball at grassroots level and the tournaments are part of the academy’s running programmes.

“CBZ is sponsoring winners and finalists’ jerseys for both primary and secondary schools tournaments. This is the first time the bank has sponsored this tournament and we feel honoured,” he said.

Primary schools expected to feature in the competition are Mzilikazi, Mahlathini, Usher, Luveve, Sacred Heart, Josiah Chinamano, Insukamini and Mtshede while secondary schools which have confirmed participation are Cowdray Park, Milton, Christian Brothers College, Sizane, Eveline, Mpopoma and Usher.

Magwegwe, Sobukhazi, JZ Moyo, Mzingwane, Matopo will also take part while Empandeni, Embakwe, Wanezi and Mtshabezi were yet to confirm.

Eveline and Mpopoma were winners of the inaugural schools tournament in 2011 which was officially launched by the Sports and Recreation Commission. Since its inception, Sacred Heart, Mtshingwe and Senzangakhona have dominated the primary schools category while Mpopoma, Milton, Eveline, Luveve and Matopo have been doing well in the secondary schools section.
