MOTOR racing sensation Axcil Jefferies will miss out on round two of the GP2 Series championship in Spain this weekend due to “sponsorship struggles”.

The ace Zimbabwean driver was expected to compete at the Circuit de Barcelona in Catalunya, from Friday to Sunday with the Italy-based Trident Racing Team.
Jefferies worked with Trident during the GP2 Series on pre-season testing in March, and then raced for them in the season opener at Bahrain in April on a one-off basis with no assurance that he would be back in the car in subsequent races.
But on Monday, just four days ahead of the second round of the year in Barcelona, Jefferies (19) revealed in a tweet on the official account that sponsorship constraints had ended the chances of competing this weekend.
“Well this sucks! We won’t be racing in Barcelona this weekend in GP2 . . . Sponsorship struggles continue,” Jefferies tweeted.
The talented driver had a tough debut which was marred by a huge crash caused by Japanese driver Kimiya Sato on the second day of the three-day competition.
He was, however, happy with the experience he gained as he recovered from the crash to finish on position 21 out of the 26 competitors.

Jefferies has had an on-off racing career to date due to lack of sponsorship. In 2009 he drove in Formula BMW Pacific Championship, scoring a couple of race wins to finish third overall that season.
He did not compete in any series for two and an half years before a limited campaign in the 2012 Formula Two Championship in which he ended the year twelfth. The GP2 Series is widely recognised as a gateway to the Formula One World Championship as its races are held internationally, mostly in Europe, as support races to Formula One.
