Sandaka is on loan at BMC from Gaborone United where he fell out of favour last season, again, because of off-field issues.

The talented player has a reputation for ill-discipline and his new club was reportedly considering terminating his deal due to alcoholism and failure to pay rentals.

“His landlord has been to our training ground asking for money from him. It was quite embarrassing because we are given monies to do so. He has a problem with drinking alcohol and is thought to have used up the money on beer,” a club source said.

His coach Daniel Nare said he was aware of Sandaka’s issues but insisted he would keep him and manage him well.

“I think he just needs someone to monitor him closely. If you know what he can do for you on the field you take that step and help him,” Nare told Southern Eye.

Sandaka was the toast of the day last Saturday as BMC picked their first win in six outings.

He bagged a hat-trick, helping his team to a 4-2 win over Darlington Dodo’s Tafic.

After that game, Nare sang praises of the former Gaborone United forward.

“We have been getting bad results in the past games and this win is surely a relief to us and we will be hoping for another good result in our next game away to Orapa United. Sandaka did well to pull a hat-trick,” he said.

He, however, added Sandaka was nowhere near full fitness.

Sandaka’s stay at Gaborone United was also shrouded in controversy.

One time, he played while police were waiting to arrest him after the game. He was alleged to have been selling fake licences.
