HWANGE striker Rodwell Chinyengetere will not be returning to Premier Soccer League action this season as he continues his rehabilitation

HWANGE striker Rodwell Chinyengetere will not be returning to Premier Soccer League action this season as he continues his rehabilitation from a horrific injury sustained last year.

REPORT BY SUKOLUHLE MTHETHWA

The former Warriors striker, who rose to prominence in the national team under Norman Mapeza, clashed with then Monomotapa goalkeeper Artwell Mukandi during a league match last April and has not seen action since then.

Southern Eye Sport spoke to Chinyengetere yesterday on his recovery process and assistance he has been getting from Hwange through the payment of his salary and medical bills.

“I am feeling much better now. I am a doing a lot of workout in the gym and I am now walking on my own but I cannot jog because it is still painful. I am going back to Hwange to continue with the physiotherapy. In a short while I will be doing light training,” he said from his home in Kadoma.

Chinyengetere heaped praises on the Hwange football club management.

“Hwange have treated me well since I got injured. They have been constantly communicating with me to check on how I am doing. They have also helped in ensuring that the medical bills are paid. I have also been receiving my salary although I am not getting the winning bonus because I am not playing,” he said.

Chinyengetere hopes that Hwange will not be relegated at the end of the season.

“I have missed playing but I have learnt to accept that I have to fully recover first. I do not think I will play this season but probably next year. I hope Hwange will stay in the premiership this season,” he said.

The coalminers are in 12th position with 14 points after winning just three games from 13 matches so far this season.

They have lost five and drawn five and resume their campaign next Wednesday with a date against Caps United at the National Sports Stadium before hosting Harare City four days later at the Colliery to wrap up the first half of the season.
