BUSINESSMAN  Ozias Bvute has joined the race for the Zanu PF Mashonaland East chairperson’s  post ahead of provincial elections.

The post fell vacant following the death of the Transport minister Joel Biggie Matiza, who succumbed to Covid 19 early this year.

The late Matiza’s deputy, Michael Madanha is the acting provincial boss and has also declared his interests in contesting for the influential post.

Zanu PF councillors in Manyame Rural District Council invited Bvute to a meeting in Dema  last week where they reportedly endorsed him.

Seke legislator Munyaradzi Kashambe, who attended the council meeting, confirmed that Bvute was invited by some leaders in the district.

Bvute, also Zanu PF’s Goromonzi North legislator, yesterday could neither confirm nor deny his interest saying he is ready to work for the party.

He promised to ensure that party members are engaged in developmental projects.

“We have been imparting and sharing on a number of self-help projects that aim at improving the lives of our members which  President Emmerson Mnangagwa has highlighted as policy projects that the government is implementing,” Bvute said.

“This is line with His Excellency’s mantra of production, production, production. It merely seeks to compliment governments efforts in attaining vision 2030 which includes, but is not limited to the drilling of boreholes in areas where my counterpart MPs have enabled me access, to the training of people on how to rear and look after chickens as a tool to individual nutrition and as a means of earning income from your home.

“We are reminding and equipping members to run their community bakeries as taught by the party. I have a testimony where from this humble project two members of my constituency have bought automobiles from the proceeds of their bakeries.”

Youth league boss Kelvin Mutsvairo and provincial political commissar Hebert Shumbamhini are also eyeing the position.

In the provincial women’s league contest, incumbent Lyn Gororo will battle it out with provincial affairs minister Applonia Munzverengwi.

Tinashe Choto, Moses Ndoro and Isaac Tasikani are set to contest for the provincial youth league chairperson position.
