THE South African Police Service (Saps) has destroyed the wooden makeshift bridge that smugglers built over Limpopo River.

Saps Limpopo Province spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said their work was interrupted by marauding crocodiles and they had to seek the services of the South African National Defence Force for it to continue.

“Police in Musina (last) Thursday made an attempt to destroy the makeshift bridge built illegally to cross over from Zimbabwe into South Africa and back,” he said.

“Whilst busy, crocodiles in the river were also in abundance, patrolling the area wanting to feast on police members on the makeshift bridge.”

Shots had to be fired to scare them off. A small part of the bridge was destroyed. SANDF had been notified and will also come assist. —
