Minister challenges graduates

JUDITH NCUBE

Bulawayo Metropolitan Affairs and Devolution minister C has implored graduates from the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) to partner the government on land and agricultural projects.

She made the remarks while officiating at the instituition’s 14th annual graduation in Bulawayo on Friday.

The institution was confering diplomas to 136 students who majored in agriculture, tourism and hospitality, development studies, and social work, among others.

Ncube implored agriculture graduates to partner the Lands and Agriculture ministry in setting up projects.

“Come, partner and sign an agreement with the Lands and Agriculture ministry as we have a peri-urban area around Bulawayo with cattle, goats, pigs and farms, pieces of land which they can get,” Ncube said.

“It’s painful for a child to have a certificate saying they studied agriculture yet they are scared of livestock.

She said the 5.0 educational model was skills based, moving away from the 3.0 model which was more academic and employment geared.

“5.0 education aims at solving problems around our surroundings, it is an educational system which answers to the 2030 vision coined by the President of Zimbabwe,” Ncube said.
