BULAWAYO Metropolitan Affairs minister Judith Ncube has urged the health sector to revive home-based care to assist elderly citizens who are failing to access medical attention due to age and lack of funds.
The minister made the remarks yesterday when she officiated at the donation of groceries by the Angel of Hope Foundation run the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa to the Pumula elderly people.
Addressing the gathering, Ncube said it is crucial for the health sector and the Bulawayo City Council to come up with programmes that help the elderly in their homes.
“The health sector should come up with programmes to help the elderly. There should be projects like home-based care where the elders are catered for and this will become easier for the elders,” said Ncube.
“I challenge the city council and the health sector to start these projects so that our elderly can be assisted frequently and easily. It is also my wish that other organisations and churches intervene in helping the elderly as they are of paramount importance in our community.”

Pumula residents, the elderly, disabled and pregnant women received cooking oil, mealie meal, sugar, rice, and soap from Auxillia who, however, failed to show up for the occasion due to an emergency.
Zanu PF politburo members, including Absolom Skhosana and Tshinga Dube attended the event.
