Former Zimbabwe Davis Cup Tennis player Genius Chidzikwe has lauded the Manicaland Tennis Association academy (Mantas) for being the major conveyor belt of the country’s top junior tennis players.

Mantas is continuing to lead by example after providing the bulk of junior tennis players to represent the country at the African Junior Zone VI Championships in Namibia pencilled for January 8-14.

The academy has five of the eleven players selected to represent the country in Windhoek, in various age groups, both girls and boys from Under-12 to Under-16.

The academy provided Under-12 girl Beverly Matsiwe, Under-14 girls Karen Muswere, Karen Mwashita, Under-16 girl Latifah Yasini and Under-16 boy Alwyn Mushonga.

Chidzikwe said: “l am very happy for the academy because it has been outstanding and it has shown it by providing more players in the various national team age groups. I believe it is a result of team work and a combination of players and coaches who have the passion for the game.

Look at Liberty Nzula, who is a former player and is part of the structures and Freeman Nyamunokora, who is the head coach at the academy,” observed Chidzikwe. Tennis Zimbabwe president Anne Martin is director of the academy while Chidzikwe is the senior tennis coach.
