CAPE TOWN — Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral reveals he set striker Tendai Ndoro a target of scoring 20 goals this season before their season opener against Golden Arrows.

The Zimbabwe international responded well to the challenge, scoring the campaign’s first hat-trick as the Buccaneers’ beat Arrows 3-1 at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
As a result he needs a further 17 goals from the 29 remaining league matches, which would undoubtedly put him in the driver’s seat for the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot considering the last time someone hit the 20-goal mark was Siyabonga Nomvete for Moroka Swallows in 2010/11.
“He has such great quality,” Ertugral said.

“I had a log chat with him before the start of the season on the potential he has. He doesn’t know himself. It’s quite amazing the possibilities that he has. The 20-goal mark, he has to reach that this season. We put that target for him.”
The mentor pushes the forward to do more, something that Ndoro reacts well to.
“There was an opportunity I had in the first half when I should have scored but I wasn’t in the right area,” Ndoro said.
“The coach asked me at halftime; “What are you doing? Why are you not in the box like I told you?’ I was down a bit after hearing that. But the first goal returned my confidence.
“We are lucky to have such a great coach. But it doesn’t mean that since I have scored three goals today, then I can relax because if I don’t deliver in the next game I will be chased away. He pushes me to excel.”
