THE Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) yesterday suspended Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Peter Dube as the fallout between the two parties over relegation playoffs turn nasty.

Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela last night confirmed that Dube, together with Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede, had been banned “for bringing football into disrepute”.
Gwesela did not specify the lifespan of the bans, saying he would issue a statement.
He had not released the statement by the time of going to print last night.
The two, according to Gwesela, stand accused of disrupting conference proceedings during the Zifa assembly’s annual meeting at the end of last month where the association councillors voted to overturn the earlier resolution to relegate two teams and promote an equal number from the country’s four regions, after a playoff.

This was after the PSL refused to fund the playoffs, arguing it was Zifa’s responsibility.
The councillors, who have long been blamed as the main cause of the football problems in the country, now want four teams to be demoted and four regional winners promoted automatically into the PSL.
The PSL and its member clubs are opposed to the resolution, especially as it was passed with just two rounds of matches before the season ends.
The clubs have threatened to take legal action against Zifa.
