Highlanders supporters have stepped up efforts to clear the club’s debt following the establishment of another crowd-funding initiative which had by Monday raised $36 000.

The Bulawayo giants’ debt stands at around $862 868 and they have so far received $400 000 from some of their supporters through the Highlanders FC debt clearance campaign fronted by South Africa Supporters Chapter chairman Nodumo Nyathi.

Nyathi confirmed that they had partnered with a United States-based clergyman Raphael Mthombeni through a gofundme initiative with a target of raising about $108 000.

“This is part of the Highlanders FC debt clearance campaign. After the ThundaFund Crowd Funding platform, more people were asking for another crowd-funding platform. We could not immediately open another one at ThundaFund and we then worked with Mthombeni to open a gofundme crowdfunding platform. We now have an FNB account in South Africa, BancABC, in Zimbabwe and gofundme,” Nyathi said.

Among those who have donated via the gofundme initiative are Mthombeni, Nyathi, Raphael Moyo, Mildred Maseko and other club followers who include anonymous benefactors.
