Ambitious Buscod Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer League side Quelaton fired early warning shots in the league at the weekend when they beat bitter rivals Railstars 6-2 at Luveve Stadium.

Quelaton got their goals through a double by captain Amani Makiwa, Innocent Kutsanzira and Eddie Nkulumo who also scored two goals each to ensure their side fired past Railstars, serious contenders to the Division One crown last season.

Quelaton came second behind Chicken Inn last year and was followed by the railway men in third place. Their coach, Thulani Sibanda yesterday said it was a fair game and they had capitalised on sporadic chances that came their way.

“Railstars are a good side and we capitalised on the counter-raids that we had,” Sibanda said.

Last week, the determined Quelaton side beat Zambezi Lions 2-0 while Railstars overcame Black Boots 1-0. Premiership-relegated Bantu Rovers, who last week shared the spoils in a goalless draw with ZPC Hwange beat How Mine 1-0 on Saturday.

ZPC Hwange, who last year gave a formidable challenge coming from Division Two had their fair share when they rode past police side Black Boots 3-2 in a match that was also played on Saturday.
