Bulawayo representatives in the Zimbabwe volleyball national league Railstars Volleyball Club have vowed to continue with their unbeaten record in the elite league despite a tough challenge ahead of them in Harare at the weekend.

Railstars face Support Unit before wrapping up their league action against Kutama Old Boys’ Association (Koba) on Saturday at Danhiko Volleyball Courts.

The Bulawayo side have been playing well and have won six games that have been played in the re-introduced national league to date.

Head coach Itsanang Abu-Basutu yesterday told NewsDay Sport that they hoped to continue their winning streak despite having to work extra hard.

“Our preparations for the games have been going on well. We expect that the games against Koba and Support Unit will be very tough. Support Unit have been in camp for over a month in preparations for Sarppco games. They are likely to give us a stiff challenge,” he said.

Abu-Basutu said the players have to be their best to win both games.

“We are stepping up our game and we are focused on the games as we want to win both matches. We want to maintain our good record as we go into the second round of the league next month,” he said.

In the first games played in Harare, Railstars beat Non-Academic Boys’ Association 3-1, before they followed it up with a 3-0 victory over JS Harare and also defeated Stanbic Thunder by a 3-0 margin.

Last month, Railstars continued with their dominance in the national league as they beat Hawks, Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe and Black Rhinos in Bulawayo. They won 3-0 in all the games.

The team comprises of receivers Conrad Kupara and captain Tawanda Makumbe while Patrick Mupira and McErick Ndlovu are the centre blockers.

Bruce Makombe is the setter while Kudzai Sibangani is the utility player.

Kenneth Chitambo can be play as a centre blocker or as a setter.
