JOHANNESBURG — South Africa’s Absa Premiership football club AmaZulu has confirmed they have handed the captaincy to new goalkeeper and Zimbabwe international Tapuwa Kapini, while his predecessor Belux Kasonga will deputise.
Usuthu signed the Zimbabwean in the beginning of the off-season, and the shot stopper has already made a big impression with players and coaches alike.
Manqoba Mngqithi revealed the team had voted for the 27-year-old to take over the captain’s armband, and the coach admits it was an easy decision. “The players are the ones who spoke and I was not the one that made the decision,” Mngqithi told the Premier Soccer League’s official website. “They chose Tapuwa Kapini as their first captain.
“In the few weeks he has spent with them I believe they have seen the qualities that he has.
“The thing for me that is always important are the values that I put forward to the team.
“Hard work, humility and consistency, these are the things that were important in selecting the right captain. Someone who can lead them, and they went with Tapuwa.” —Football365
