Lloyd Masakusi was the toast of Gunners team when he scored a brace that buried Masvingo United in the first round of the Mbada Diamonds Cup at Nyamhunga Stadium yesterday.

Masakusi opened his brace in the 43rd minute when his header from a Phenius Bamusi cross beat the Masvingo goalkeeper Dzingai Murinye all systems out.

Bamusi was named the man of the man and walked away with $500 and a shield. The tireless striker came back to haunt the Masvingo defence in the 60th minute when his header from Ali Sadiki once again eluded Murinye into the far corner of the net to assure the Moses Chunga’s side progress to the next round.

Masvingo were on the warpath from the start in the scorching heat of Kariba, but soon Gunners took control after the half hour mark.

The match was watched by a good crowd of more than 2000 fans. Most fans who talked to NewsDay Sport were happy with Mbada Diamonds for spreading the game to all towns.
