DUBAI — International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat says he will step down when his term expires in June.

Lorgat, who has made combating corruption and expanding the game’s global reach his themes while in office, took up his post in 2008 and will step down after the ICC’s annual convention next year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Lorgat said he was stepping down after dealing “decisively” with a spot-fixing scandal, delivering what he described as a successful 2011 Cricket World Cup and the enactment of his global strategy for the game.

The ICC will soon begin advertising for a successor.
