Kyokushin Union of Zimbabwe (Kuz) will send 11 athletes to represent the country at the Inspector General of Police Karate Cup to be held in Zambia, this weekend.
The annual tournament which has attracted all countries from Southern Africa, will be staged at the Lilayi Hall in Lusaka, tomorrow. The Zimbabwe delegation is expected to travel by road this morning.
Kuz chairman Stephen Charumbira, who will lead the delegation said: We are sending a very competitive group of athletes and we expect good results. We will compete in three categories, so I think we will bring at least two gold medals.
We are one of the giants in the region and we expect some competition from South Africa, said Charumbira.
He said most of his athletes would not compete in their designated categories, but on the stages higher owing to the lower standards expected at the tournament.
Tawanda Mufundisi will compete in the middleweight category and not lightweight category, the same with Nicolus Muchatisi, said Charumbira.
