It’s down to serious business as the 2012 edition of the Zimbabwe Open Squash Championships get underway at Suburbs Squash Club this morning.

The competition will run until Sunday.

Matabeleland Squash Association secretary Melody Mwete confirmed that all was set for the Safeguard-sponsored competition.

“The Zimbabwe Open Squash competition starts tomorrow (today). We are hoping to host a successful tournament. We are also hoping that our local talent will learn something from the international players,” she said.

The competition will feature four categories; men and women’s singles, veterans and doubles.

A total of $1 000 will be given to the winner in the men’s singles, while $750 will go to the winner of the women’s category. Locals Mike Burns and Neil Nesbitt are expected to defend the doubles title they won last year. Zambian Sharon Chimfwembe, who won the ladies singles title last year, is expected to take part in the competition.
