DESPITE finding themselves deep in the relegation zone, Agama coach Godfrey Tamirepi remains confident that his side can retain their place in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The Mt Darwin outfit sit in 15th position at the halfway stage of the season and face a crucial encounter against Bulawayo Chiefs on Saturday, a match Tamirepi has labelled a must-win fixture in their battle against relegation.

Agama have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, particularly away from home, but their inability to convert chances has continued to cost them valuable points.

Tamirepi believes victory over Chiefs could provide the fresh impetus his side desperately needs.

“Another must-win game we are facing over the weekend in our quest for survival,” Tamirepi told NewsDay Sport.

“We haven’t been bad travellers of late, but this does not mean it’s going to be a walk in the park.

“We must be at our best to get a good result.”

While Agama have managed to trouble some of the league’s established sides this season, their biggest challenge has been putting chances away in the final third.

The coach admitted that a lack of cutting edge in front of goal has been the missing ingredient preventing the team from turning promising performances into victories.

“At this point in time, the missing link is the finishing part where we are creating a lot of chances, but failing to put away the chances,” he said.

“However, we are working on it and we are going to reinforce the strikeforce.”

With the mid-season transfer window approaching, Tamirepi revealed that the club is actively searching for reinforcements, particularly attacking players capable of easing their scoring woes.

“Of course, we are on the market to try and bring in firing power upfront and some other areas of concern,” he said.

The admission signals Agama’s intent to fight for survival rather than accept their current predicament, with the club hoping new arrivals can provide the spark needed for a strong second-half resurgence.

Saturday’s clash against Bulawayo Chiefs could, therefore, prove pivotal, not only for the points at stake, but also for restoring belief that Agama’s top-flight dream can extend beyond their maiden campaign.
